Customer Update – CR2032 Coin Cells

Dear Customer,

Global supply of CR2032 coin cells is under severe pressure. Both Panasonic and Maxell have officially announced price increases and confirmed that production capacity is being shifted toward high‑margin segments: ➡️ Automotive key fobs & smart entry – premium contracts, blister packs with 40–50% margins ➡️ Advanced medical devices – CGMs, cardiac patches, priced 3–5x higher ➡️ High‑temperature TPMS sensors – special CR‑HO series with extreme premiums

📑 Official Announcements

  • Panasonic Energy (Press Release, Aug 2026): Shipping prices of dry cell and micro batteries to rise ~10% from September, citing raw material and logistics costs. Investor updates also highlight capacity allocation toward automotive and medical coin cells.

  • Panasonic Energy India (Press Release, Jun 2026): Compliance costs under new Battery Waste Management Rules have surged 10×, adding significant financial burden.

  • Maxell Ltd. (MEX26 Mid‑Term Plan, Apr 2026): Small battery business continues as growth driver, but production is being prioritized for automotive TPMS sensors, medical devices, and premium contracts. Soaring silver prices require cost pass‑through and price hikes.

Because of these global cost pressures and strategic reallocations, we expect 15–20% price hikes on CR2032 coin cells from Panasonic and Maxell. These increases are driven not only by allocation shifts but also by rising global costs of lithium, manganese dioxide, silver, energy, and labor.
